About

Here at the Turtle Rescue League, our mission is to “keep turtles a part of the future, not a thing of the past.”

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (see our letter of determination here) founded in 2010, and since then we have implemented four main programs; rehabilitation, incubation, conservation, and education. Although we primarily serve native turtles, we have initiated adoption and placement services for non-native pet turtles. We believe all turtles deserve a second chance at life.

Every year, we admit hundreds of injured or sick native turtles. We work tirelessly to provide medical treatment and prepare them for release back into their homes in the wild. Additionally, we incubate eggs recovered from dangerous locations or departed mothers. By ushering healthy hatchlings into the wetlands, we are able to preserve their mother’s legacy and carry forth the next generation of turtles.

Outside of nesting season, we offer a variety of educational classes for all ages. We visit schools, libraries, conventions, and more – often with the aid of our beloved ambassador animals! Although we do not offer full educational classes during nesting season, we continue to provide hands-on educational material about native turtles and pet turtles alike.

Our facility is located in Southbridge, Massachusetts, where the property sits in a valley and abuts a bubbling brook teeming with native wildlife. Our clinic and sanctuary provide for over 200 turtles, and we are mid-construction on a second building dedicated to permanent residents. We are open 24/7 to injuries, and Monday – Friday for pet turtle assistance. We are a private facility and appointments are required.
